Scrolling through my Facebook news feed tonight, I came across an article from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Pacific Region’s website about the oldest known living banded bird in the wild, Wisdom.
Wisdom is a Laysan albatross. The nature lover in me is amazed at Wisdom’s longevity which is beyond the average of 50 years. But the literature lover in me can’t help but think of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s “Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. Perhaps she’s still here to bring us luck and fair winds to send us on our way.
